Core Values

Everyday Hero Challenge

Key to the personal development of our children are the core values which we seek to instil in each one of them. We want every one of our school community to recognise their intrinsic value and that of others. No matter what our gender, ability, ethnic background or beliefs, we are made in the image and likeness of God and therefore an absolute masterpiece - something to be treasured. We recognise that each of us has rights but tied to them are our own responsibilities to ensure that the rights of others are not infringed upon.

We decided that we wanted to be Everyday Heroes guided by the values which our school community chose. Beginning this process was a vote, all the way from EYFS through to Year 6. Children thought about which value would have the most impact on shaping our wonderful school community to make it even better than it already was. It was pretty close but we ended up with our new values: Excellence, Harmony and Compassion.

Our next step was to seek the support of a very talented Year 13 student from St Mary’s College who listened to the ideas of children from Year 1 – Year 6 and shaped them to create our new characters which have been named Eddie, Holly and Clover.

Even though we have slimmed down our values to just three, they encompass so many more. We introduced the children to the idea of how we live out these values through a story.

These values are celebrated daily and we also have our core value certificates that are presented at the end of the week.
